Donor Bill of Rights
What every donor can expect from Rainbow, adopted from the AFP Donor Bill of Rights.
01. Our promise
Every donor matters, whether your gift is $10 or $10,000. We are committed to treating every supporter with transparency, respect, and gratitude.
Rainbow Services formally adopts the Donor Bill of Rights developed by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP), the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (AHP), the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), and the Giving Institute.
02. The ten rights
Donors to Rainbow Services have the right:
- To be informed of the organization's mission, of the way it intends to use donated resources, and of its capacity to use donations effectively for their intended purposes.
- To be informed of the identity of those serving on our governing board of directors, and to expect the board to exercise prudent judgment in stewardship responsibilities.
- To have access to the organization's most recent financial statements. See our Financial Disclosures page.
- To be assured their gifts will be used for the purposes for which they were given.
- To receive appropriate acknowledgement and recognition.
- To be assured that information about their donation is handled with respect and with confidentiality to the extent provided by law.
- To expect that all relationships with individuals representing Rainbow Services will be professional in nature.
- To be informed whether those seeking donations are volunteers, employees of the organization, or hired solicitors.
- To have the opportunity for their names to be deleted from mailing lists that the organization may intend to share.
- To feel free to ask questions when making a donation, and to receive prompt, truthful, and forthright answers.
03. Restricted gifts
We honor donor intent. If you designate a gift for a specific program or purpose, it will be used for that purpose.
In the rare event that a designated program ends, a fund becomes oversubscribed, or a restriction becomes impossible to honor, we will contact you directly to discuss redirecting your gift to a closely related purpose, or to arrange a full refund.
04. Anonymity
You may give anonymously. You may also choose to be listed publicly in our annual donor recognition materials and stewardship reports. The choice is entirely yours.
You can indicate your preference during the checkout process. If you have already given and wish to change your preference, email communications@rainbowservicesdv.org.
05. Refunds
We honor refund requests within 30 days of a donation, for any reason. No questions asked.
To request a refund, email communications@rainbowservicesdv.org with the date and approximate amount of your gift. Refunds are returned to the original payment method within 5–10 business days.
Note: once a refund is processed, the corresponding tax acknowledgement letter is voided and should not be used for tax purposes.
